- Nekrolog:
"Hello, Ed speaking.."
We always laughed when he answered the phone that way–especially since we were the ones calling. But that was Ed: animated, full of character, and never without his signature charm. That voice, that energy–will be missed deeply.
Edward Joseph Terebus passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of love, innovation, and joy that touched everyone who knew him. He was the devoted husband & a fiercely proud father of two children whom he cherished beyond measure. He was a beloved son and the deeply loved brother. He was an amazing uncle to a small army of 23 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and an instant friend to everyone he met.
He was a visionary entrepreneur and tireless creator. His first business began with a mail-in locksmith course from a novelty catalog–and then Lock 'Em Out Locksmiths was born. From there, his creative spark only grew. Scaring his sisters for fun became a profession when he joined his brother Jim and helped create The Haunted Gallery, Erebus Haunted Attraction, Erebus Escape Rooms, and with his friend Steve, The Mythos Museum. Erebus is one of the most celebrated haunted attractions in the country–an experience that reflected Ed's boundless imagination and flair for the unforgettable.
But Ed was more than his accomplishments. He was fun-loving, kind-hearted, and full of energy. His charisma lit up every room. His laughter was contagious. Ed was the life of the party and loved sharing a cold beer and a good story with the people in his life. He had a rare ability to bring people together–through a shared thrill, a heartfelt conversation, or a perfectly timed joke. Ed was a master storyteller and a skilled magician who delighted his family and friends with his illusions, humor, and theatrical flair. Ed loved bringing joy, surprise, and a sense of wonder wherever he went.
Ed lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously of his time, talents, and heart. He was a builder of dreams, a bringer of joy, and above all, a good man. He leaves a remarkable legacy of creativity and adventure but also countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Ed's momentum and energy will continue through the lives he inspired and the love he shared. He was truly one of a kind. And while his voice may no longer answer the phone, his spirit will echo on in every laugh, every haunted house shriek, and every tale that begins, "Did I ever tell you about the time…"
