Came to the US via the Port of New York on 6-11-1902 on Vessel Virginia, from Port of Bremen. *********************************************************** South Bend Tribune, Wednesday, September 19, 1962 page 35 CASIMIR FIWEK DIES AT AGE 82 Furniture Store Owner Former Councilman Casimir F. Fiwek, 82, of 701 S. Falcon St., owner of the Fiwek Bros. Furniture Store, 502 S. Carlisle St., died at 2 a.m. today in his home after an illness of two months. He was the father of County Treasurer Clement C. Fiwek and was the 6th District city councilman in 1927. For many years he was active in the social and civic life of St. Adalbert's Catholic parish and the local Polish American community. He was the owner of the Fiwek restaurant at 450 S. Carlisle St., from 1906 to 1948. In 1923 he opened the furniture store with his younger brother, Stanley, who died Oct. 11, 1961. He was born on Jan. 27, 1880, in Poland and lived here 62 years, coming from Poland. On June 14, 1904, he was married to the former Anna Gruzinski, wh died in 1920. On Oct. 8, 1925, he was married in St. Hedwige's Catholic Church to the former Helen Grzezsk, who survives. Mr. Fiwek was an organizer of the West Side Democratic and Civic Club and was formerly active in the Polish-American Central Civic Committee. He also was a member of the Star of Victory Society 83, Polish National Alliance; St. John Evangelist Society 605, Polish Roman Catholic Union, and the Guard of St. Stanislaus Society of St. Adalbert's Church. Surviving besides his widow and son are two daughters, Mrs. Sophis Sniadecki and Mrs. Eleanor Rzepka; a brother, Ignatius; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Fenimore; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of South Bend. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Adalbert's Church with Very Rev. Msgr. Ignatius J. Gapczynski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Polish Cemetery. Fiwek, 701 S. Falcon St., owner of the Fiwek Bros. Furniture Store, 502 S. Carlisle St., who died Wednesday, will be pallbearers at his funeral to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. The pallbearers are Robert Fenimore, John and Richard Snidaecki, Casimir Strychalski and Arthur Hazinski. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Polish Cemetery. Friends may call at the St. Joseph Funeral Home.
